Mid Pines

One of the most pleasant golf experiences in the Sandhills is this Donald Ross classic, opened in 1921.  The handsome Georgian-style Mid Pines Inn looms over the golf course and the 18th hole.

The layout is compact, with little distance from one green to the next tee, making it an ideal course for walkers.  The fairways are narrow and the greens small. Most of the course is surrounded by other holes or by woods-the only exception being the 10th fairway, which is lined by a half dozen homes and cottages operated by the resort.

Its old world and old style.  And every hole is in the same location with the same number as it was when the couse opened in November, 1921.  Few courses that old can make that statement.

Mid Pines won't tax the long-hitter at only 6,515 yards, but that's okay.  There's something to be said for accuracy and precision and hitting quality approach shots to the small greens.

The course, like sister course Pine Needles across the street is accessible to all golfers-either guests of the two resorts or on a daily-fee basis if tee times are available.
